General

SatanSam is a freeware light puzzle/action platform game. Originally intended as a direct remake of the first SatanSam game released back in 2002, the new game has exceeded the original. At the moment of this update there are already 53 levels spread over 3 worlds. Also, unlike most of my games, I've actually been working very hard on this to get a good way into the game. I've been working on this since about February and have a massive chunk of the game actually done.

The story was going to be quite minimalist. However after getting into the game I started to map out a big story. the story will be told through cutscenes and talking between the characters. A little like Titan Omega's but not as serious.

When finished the game will have (note these will likely change for better or worse);

 

Gameplay

The gameplay is near identical to the old game. Basically you have to clear the screen of bad guys and escape through the door. However now I have more powerful tools at my disposal Sam can now run around in much larger levels. Using a scrolling engine developed for Satan Sam 2 and also used in the Shikun 2 tech demo, its very efficient and works just how it needs too for the new Satan Sam.

To add a bit of flavor some levels will have timers, some will have no bad guys and simply require you to reach the exit, or a few other secret things.

Completing levels requires the player to utilize weapons and objects at their disposal, be it to destroy bad guys or flip a switch or whatever. Knowledge of items is key to beating this game, as well as good reflexes.

Without giving too much away, you can mix around Sam's powers for interesting combinations. You will learn more of these in game.

 

Soundtrack

I have composed the soundtrack entirely myself using Logic on Mac OSX. Infact, all the new pixel art for Sam was drawn in Pixen. Another OSX application. I figured if OSX is supposed to be the creative platform I might as well do all the creative parts of the game here. This site was made on OSX too, infact only the engine/compiling the graphics+audio took place on a PC.
Soundtrack will be entirely MP3 saved into an encrypted single file, using the seemingly very durable system used for TOR's save files. This file will be about 20Mb.

Secrets

There are lots of secret things in Satan Sam that I'm not giving away. Some are pretty major secret gameplay elements, some are things to do in levels (i.e.. vehicles and weapons). These may be massive hype builders, much like Half Life 2's physics engine, but I'm resisting and nothing is getting out :). everything announced here is the bare minimum just to get this counted as an 'announcement'. Maybe what I've said is a lie to throw you off? Maybe Jackie Tyler is Badwolf after all?

 

 

System!

My system is a 1.5Ghz G4 PowerBook, of the 12" variety. nothing more than the stock version. 20.1" widescreen extrernal monitor, 60gb internal HD, 512mb RAM, Combo Drive. using a 60gb external drive too. Running Tiger (OS 10.4.5). with a baby blue iPod mini 6gb keeping my music alive through a Teleton amp with two Wharfedale Modus speakers making it sound nice.
Am using a windows laptop too, but nobody bothers with that ;)
